The Parliamentary Forum for Democracy is able to mobilise PFD members to act in support of democracy. Democratically elected parliamentarians have unique skills which they can contribute to democracy support activities. The PFD Secretariat can involve its members as long- or short-term peer trainers in democracy/parliamentary strengthening programs in new and emerging democracies. The experience and expertise of various PFD members is such that these programs can include subjects as diverse as comparative international legislative practice, parliamentary modernization, coalition governing, budgetary oversight, committee and party group operations, as well as the basics of effective lawmaking, oversight and constituent engagement and representation.
The Parliamentary Forum for Democracy has only recently begun acting to support democracy in this way. PFD has assisted its members to act to promote and strengthen democracy in the following ways:
